Johnson Custom Pools

Pool builder in Pflugerville, Texas

Details confirmed

A family business with roots going back to 1987, Johnson Custom Pools builds custom swimming pools around Austin and Round Rock. The founders previously worked in pool construction with Centex Pools, and the second generation now runs the company. Construction uses a rebar steel framework with a shotcrete shell, followed by plumbing, electrical, tile, coping and interior finish. Beyond new pools and spas, the company handles renovations, new water features and decking upgrades, along with repairs and regular maintenance. Its service division works on both commercial and residential pools, and a consistent construction crew has stayed with the company since its founding.

Licensing and insurance

Licensing in Texas. Texas has no state license for swimming pool contractors, so there is no state register to check a pool builder against. What is licensed is the sub-work: pool plumbing and gas lines must be done by a plumber licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, and pool electrical by an electrician licensed through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio also require contractor registration with the city before permits are issued.

Johnson Custom Pools's website does not say whether the company is licensed or insured. Ask for the plumber's and electrician's license numbers and a certificate of insurance before signing.
